March 12, 2024 | Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabian football club Al-Hilal has set a world record for a top-flight team by winning their 28th straight game in a 2-0 victory over Al-Ittihad to reach the Asian Champions League semi-finals.

The victory extends Al-Hilal's unbeaten streak to an astonishing 28 matches, breaking the previous record held by Italian giants AC Milan, who won 27 consecutive matches in 1993.

"This is a historic moment for Al-Hilal and for Saudi football," said club manager Ramon Diaz. "This team has shown incredible determination and spirit to achieve this record. We are proud of our players and the entire club."

The record-breaking victory was secured by goals from Salem Al-Dawsari and Odion Ighalo. Al-Hilal now faces Iranian side Foolad in the Asian Champions League semi-finals.

The club's success has been built on a solid defense, which has conceded just 10 goals in 28 matches. Goalkeeper Abdullah Al-Mayouf has played a key role in the team's success, keeping 17 clean sheets during the unbeaten run.

Al-Hilal is not just a domestic powerhouse but also a force on the continental stage. They have won four Asian Champions League titles, including three in the past four seasons.

The club's success is a testament to the growing strength of Saudi football. Al-Hilal's record-breaking streak has earned them worldwide recognition and has further enhanced the reputation of Saudi Arabia as a footballing nation.
